Post or Page Disappeared From Google

Posted by User ImageMelo

Today, Brian Combs, VP of Services at Apogee Search, commented to one of my post with a link to his study or test of the effect of Lord Google’s punishment to PPP blogs (and others). The punishment given by Lord Google was he took away his holy blessings (pagerank) from these blogs (dropped to pagerank 0) which made these blogs unable to take anymore opportunities from PPP and other sites that offer “get paid to blog” services.

Now, many argued that the drop did not affect the blogs search engine ranking in Google. In fact, most, if not all, continuou to get tons of traffic from Lord Google.

Quoted below is part of Brian’s conclusion to his study. Read the full report here.

Conclusions: Clearly, the claims that PPP blogs have lost all ability to pass link juice have been definitively proven false.

Post/Page Gone

After reading Brian’s report I decided to do some searching using Lord Google’s ever powerful search engine. The term or keywords I used were “how to make money in second life” because I remember my post titled How To Make Money In Second Life? at [Kabalyero].com was or used to show up in the second page. I didn’t bother to take a screenshot of the result page because the PR drop does not mean you are out of Google but when I checked for it today, I was surprised to learn that it wasn’t there anymore. What I did next was, I went through all the result pages starting from page 1 up to page 10 and you know what? The post or page wasn’t in any of them. I didn’t go beyond page 10 because what’s the point? Not being in the first 10 pages is like not existing at all. The funny thing is, my post here titled Make Money In Second Life appears on the 7th page under the same keywords “how to make money in second life”.

Fortunately, the post or page is still in Lord Google’s index. I found it by adding the term “kabalyero” at the end making the search term “how to make money in second life kabalyero” which is pretty useless. Who would use such a search term as keywords (besides me of course)?

What I did wasn’t very scientific. I did it because it was something that’s been on my mind for a while now and Brian’s study made me remember it. Most of Kabalyero.com’s traffic comes from Lord Google and I was really curious to how the drop to pagerank 0 will affect the blog’s placement within Lord Google’s search engine. Well, Lord Google didn’t exactly removed the post from its index but he pushed it way, way back to obscurity. Just like when I was still a young boy in school and I did something naughty the teacher would tell me, “Go sit at the back!”, as punishment. Hmmm… don’t tell me that Lord Google is one of my old elementary school teacher. o_O

Anyway, maybe Brian can test (a more scientific one) this theory that pages or post from penalized blogs are being pushed back down in Lord Google’s search result pages. Thanks Brian for the study!

The bad thing about your example is that that post could have went into the secondary index anyway. You would need a much more controlled study to see if you are being punished or not.

I’ve got to go with Lisa on this one. I’d imagine “make money in second life” is actually a pretty popular topic. On the other hand, I use a test for the phrase “applied anarchy” (sans quotes) as this is a common phrase on my blog, but not elsewhere in the universe. I’ve ben at #1 for this search for several months and remain there today.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I was really surprise to learn that the post was no longer in the top 10 pages because the last time I checked it was in the second page. It’s really surprising that the post moved from page two to who knows where. I got the search term from my Awstats and it was listed as the top keyphrase for this month. If it’s been doomed to the supplemental index hell then that’s like it never existed but I think it’s still a good theory. Brian of Apogee Search replied that he might take a look at it as Phase 3 of his study. I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks guys, I’m really learning a lot about Google and search engines.

I hope Lisa and Aahz are correct. This could be ominous if not.
