Add A Favicon To Your Blogspot Blog

Posted by Melo

One thing you’ll notice about Blogspot or Blogger blogs is that they all seem to have the same Favicon. For those who don’t know what a Favicon is, a Favicon is a small icon that is displayed before your URL at the address bar, before your page or site title in a browser tab and when your site or page is bookmarked. Now, wouldn’t you want to change that blogger Favicon to your own Favicon?

Why Use A Favicon?

Having your own Favicon is not really a requirement in running a website or a blog but having one gives your blog or website a little more identity. An identity that will or may make it standout among the millions of blogs and websites that are out there fighting for some attention. Having a Favicon is like having your own logo or your own signature. It’s like a symbol that may help you establish your own identity or brand. Besides, seeing your own icon when your pages are loaded is very cool!

How To Add A Favicon To Your Blogspot Blog?

BUT, before we can add one, we must first make one. Today, making your own Favicon is as easy as uploading a picture and then linking to it. Actually, that’s just how it is. Ha ha ha!

Before, Favicons use the .ico file type but modern browsers can now also display .png and .gif files as Favicons. Anyway, for our example we will create a Favicon of the .ico type.

To help us create our Favicon, we will use iconJ.com’s Free Favicon Generator. Do I still have to explain this? It’s pretty simple.

  • Just go to iconJ.com
  • Click Browse and select a picture or image to upload
  • Change the Sharpen level if you like
  • Click the Upload It button to upload your picture or image

Once uploaded, you’ll be taken to a page where you will see your newly created or should I say generated Favicon and two options will be presented to you. You can either download your newly generated Favicon to your computer so you can upload it to your own web server or leave it hosted with iconJ.com. In our case, we will leave it hosted with iconJ.com since we are going to add it to a blogspot or blogger blog.

Adding your newly generated Favicon to your blogspot or blogger blog is also very simple.

  • Edit TemplateJust log in to your account at blogger.com.
  • In your Dashboard click on Layout. If you have multiple blogs in your Dashboard then click on the Layout link of the blog you wish to edit.
  • Next click on Edit HTML. This will open the Edit Template window.
  • Look for this line:
    <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
  • iconJ.comCut or copy the code from iconJ.com which is under “Host Your FavIcon.ico File at IconJ.com” below it. It will look like this:
    <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
    <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”http://www.iconj.com/ico/9/91a1uiz90p.ico” />
  • Click Save Template to save your changes and view your blog. You may have to do a force refresh to see the change.

That’s it! You just created your very own Favicon and you’ve also added it into your good old blogspot blog.
