Show Me The Money

Money4Banners

Recently, a fellow Filipino myLotter who is currently in India sent me a link to Money4Banners. It is a website that pays website owners for placing a standard 468×60 banner on their websites. He found me at myLot because I replied to a response he made about making money online. In his message, he said that my PR3 website could make some money from it.

Money4Banners will pay you $5 a month for placing and maintaining three of their banners on your website. I thought it was a nice deal so I signed up. They also mentioned on their homepage that new sign-ups will receive a $10 bonus but I don’t know where to verify if I received it or not because I can’t seem to find it anywhere in the member’s area.

Anyway, the domain I submitted was reviewed and approved by them and the next thing I need to do was to grab the codes that I need to place on my website. Upon seeing the codes, I had second thoughts about placing it because the codes are in HTML which displays a table that is designed to look like a standard 468×60 banner and in it are text links with no “nofollow” attributes. Personally, I felt deceived because I had the impression that the banners will be standard 468×60 image banners and they did say on their homepage “standard 468×60 pixel banner”. When I read pixel, my immediate assumption was they meant image not a table with images and text links in it. Yes, the HTML table contains images but it’s just for show and indeed the banner appears like a standard image banner. (see screenshot)

(The upper part shows the code and you’ll notice that the links are no nofollow. Below that is how it is displayed and it looks very much like a standard image banner. Click to view a larger image! )

In the end I didn’t place the code in my website because of the fact that Lord Google hates text links that passes PR because they feel that it’s like gaming or abusing their system and they will smack any website caught doing it (unless of course you are one of the big boys then they might look the other way). I didn’t want that particular website of mine to suffer Lord Google’s wrath specially when it is ranked number 1 on its keywords. In fact, I won’t even place that code in this website either.

Today, I contacted them to inquire if those codes can be edited to make the links nofollow. Well, I kinda have a feeling of what their answer would be but it doesn’t hurt to make sure, right? If they will allow nofollow on the links then I will continue on and place their codes but if not then I guess that’s it for Money4Banners.

For those who are interested then you are most welcome to check them out and if you don’t mind the risk of getting smack by Lord Google, which I’m sure many of you are, then go for it. $5 maybe small for an “A List” blog but for small blogs like this one, it’s still good money. For me, I’ll hold off until I get a response from them regarding my inquiry.

Update: I received an answer from them and unfortunately the codes must not changed.

It seems to me like you really do not approve of these guys (neither would I, after reading that) so why have you stuffed this post full of their affiliate links? Still trying to make a little money from them? Don’t bother.

I recently experimented with Money4Banners on one of my websites and have been very happy with the results. It is a niche informational website that caters for a small audience and so does not get a lot of traffic. M4B outperformed Adsense by a factor of 10 over a couple of months.

I probably won’t use it on my bigger websites as PPC and direct selling and branding are more profitable.

I was unaware that Google had a problem with text links. Presumably this is just for text links in an advertising block? How does Google differentiate between advertising text links and bog-standard hyperlinks.

I’d be grateful if you could expand a little more on this.

    Cheers,
