On Selling Digitally Delivered Goods

eBay Philippines (eBay.ph) recently sent an e-mail update to all its sellers about their new policy on selling Digitally Delivered Goods. According to them, goods that are digitally downloaded or transferred are no longer allowed to be sold in eBay.ph since last April 16, 2008.

This piece of news is a bummer for those who sell digitally delivered goods in eBay like Entrecard Credits (EC). It’s no secret that I used to sell ECs in eBay as well but not anymore. Eversince I got my hands on this cool plugin called QuickShop, I’ve been selling ECs directly from this blog.
QuickShop (QS) is a simple plugin that adds basic shopping cart functionality to your Wordpress (WP) powered blog. It is so easy and simple to install and use that setting one up would be a piece of cake to anyone who runs a self hosted WP blog. Want an example? Just visit My Store and you’ll see how it works.
You can setup QC to handle payments via PayPal or just setup it up to accept orders via e-mail. Me? I set it up to accept PayPal payments and I’ve sold a lot of ECs through it.
QuickShop is plugin created by Zack Design for Wordpress.
Another cool plugin which you can use to sell Digitally Delivered Goods like ECs is WP Auctions. It is a WP plugin that adds the ability to run your own auctions on your WP blog. I had it installed once in this blog and it’s really cool but I took it down in favor of QuickShop.
I chose QuickShop over WP Auctions because I kinda prefer to sell directly because the turn around is quicker but if you are the auction kind of person then WP Auction is the right tool for you. Both WP plugins are cool, your choice depends on your personal preference.
Back to eBay, I just want to add that each eBay region has a different variation of this new policy on selling digitally delivered goods. eBay.ph says it’s a total NO, NO but eBay US placed restrictions on what can or cannot be sold so better check your region.
By the way, even if I logged in through eBay US, I’m still bound by eBay.ph’s policies. I kinda noticed that when all communications I received from eBay were coming from eBay.ph’s address.
Anyway, if you can’t sell on eBay then just do the selling on your own blog using QuickShop or WP Auctions.
